Thank you for visiting our site!
Team Joe Charities was created in 2007 to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children. Our primary fundraiser is an annual golf tournament held the first Friday in October each year. Plans are underway for a tennis tournament that will be held in the spring, and a motorcycle “poker run” in the summer. Details will be posted soon.
Here’s a little information on Joe and the NICU...
Joe Petrella is an amazing little boy. Any child born prematurely faces numerous obstacles with no certainty of how far they will progress. When Joe was born 12 weeks early in October of 2006, weighing only 1½ pounds, he was rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children, where a team of doctors, nurses, and specialists immediately attended to him in an effort to save his life. Not only did they save his life, but because of their outstanding care, and Joe’s will to survive, he is now home and progressing very well. But this didn’t come easy for Joe. He had many ups and downs during his 104 days in the NICU, but one thing that never changed was the outstanding care given to him by the hospital staff. They truly took care of Joe as if he was one of their own.
The NICU at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children is a Level 3 care facility, which is the most advanced of its kind in Northern Virginia. The unit has over 60 beds and is one of the largest in the nation, and admits high-risk infants from all over our region. We are very fortunate to have this facility available to all of us, and with dwindling government funding and insurance company reimbursements, every dollar that we raise will go a long way to helping them care for all of the high-risk births that unfortunately happen every day. We will also direct some of the money raised to help families meet the demands of caring for these children. Many families have a difficult time managing their lives while their child is in the NICU. Balancing work, home life, and time spent in the NICU giving their child the love they need is a very stressful time. Many parents often find themselves ill-equipped to care for a baby that may be coming home with special needs, so it is our goal to help as many of these families as possible. Every high-risk baby deserves the outstanding care that Joe received... together we can help make that happen!
